PTS 800, a safer workstation for operating on lithium batteries

Aurélien specialist Lithium technician. Lithium Be Energy workshop.

Lithium batteries, essential to the advancement of digital technology and electric mobility, present significant safety risks. These risks affect both the operators who work directly on the batteries and the companies that use them. These include companies that specialise in the hire of scooters and electric bicycles, as well as everyday users of these forms of transport. The recent fire at SNAM's Viviez plant highlights these dangers, confirming that there is no such thing as zero risk. Against this backdrop, Be Energy is presenting a significant patented innovation, the PTS 800, a solution to the safety challenges facing operators of lithium batteries.

Be Energy unveils its new secure workstation: the PTS 800

At the Global Industrie show in Paris last March, Be Energy presented a major innovation: the PTS 800 (PTS: Secure Workstation). This breakthrough in the safe handling of lithium batteries integrates cutting-edge technologies to prevent the risk of thermal runaway. This innovative device, for which Be Energy has registered a patent, is equipped with sophisticated sensors that detect any anomaly and automatically eject the battery in the event of danger, thus guaranteeing the safety of the operator, whether present or not.

Designed by Bertrand Coste, founder of Be Energy, the PTS 800 meets an essential safety requirement in the lithium battery technology sector.

Safety, ergonomics and augmented reality

The result of a collaboration with Arkite, the PTS 800 is a workstation designed to combine safety and ergonomics, thanks to the adoption of Arkite augmented reality technology. This platform transforms the workstation into an interactive digital environment, where the operator is guided by visual instructions and operations are validated by intelligent sensors.

The intuitive design of the PTS 800 also makes it accessible to people with disabilities, facilitating their employment by adapted companies.

Be Energy, a company committed to the circular economy

At the Global Industrie trade fair, Be Energy was invited by its partner MOB-ION to renew its commitment to the circular economy. This strategic collaboration enables Be Energy to supply MOB-ION with reconditioned lithium batteries, which are then incorporated into the electric scooters produced by MOB-ION.

Based on four years of research and development in the field of lithium batteries, this partnership underlines the importance of reusing batteries without changing their initial use and contributes to the fight against programmed obsolescence.

A solution to better manage the risks associated with lithium batteries

Operations involving lithium batteries, which are ubiquitous in various sectors such as portable equipment, electric transport and renewable energy storage, entail significant risks for professionals. According to the French National Institute for Research and Safety (INRS), these risks include electrical hazards such as electrification and electric arcs, as well as chemical risks due to the hazardous substances present in these batteries. The risk of fire and explosion is also significant, as shown by the 25% increase in fire incidents in sorting centres, attributed to lithium batteries (source: INRS).

These incidents can result from internal malfunctions such as thermal runaway, which is often the result of improper use or manufacturing defects.

The introduction of the PTS 800 by Be Energy at the Global Industrie Paris event marks a significant milestone in the management of risks associated with lithium batteries. By combining enhanced safety with cutting-edge technology that exceeds industry standards, Be Energy is helping to promote a safer working environment and a more sustainable industry.
